You are Secure in Christ

Everybody today is trying to find security living behind closed doors, locked walls, and gated communities trying to save up money. Insecurity is a major problem for a lot of people. Where are we secure?

If we’re not secure in Christ, where are you going to find it? Politics? Government? In money that can be stolen? It can only be found in Christ.

There has always been a struggle within the church to find the balance between God’s sovereignty and human responsibility which are both taught in Scripture. Was coming to Christ primarily God’s sovereign choice or was it our choice to believe? Or both? Some would argue that it is our choice to believe or not to believe in subsequent to salvation, we can choose to reject Christ and forfeit our salvation. Ultimately God is sovereign. But in His sovereignty, He had this call recorded in Scripture, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” Rather than defend either divine election or free will, we prefer to believe that both our will and God’s will are part of the salvation process. Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved.” If there were a sign above the door to eternal life, it would read, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But as you step through the door and look back, there will be another sign that reads, “I have known you from the foundations of the world.”

We’re not going to try to solve the questions as to whether you were saved because God chose you or because you chose God, but we do hope to convince you that you can be secure in Christ regardless of you position on the previous question. If you can’t be secure in Christ, then there is no security because true security is relating to the eternal and changeless nature of God, not the temporal, transitory nature of this world.

For any relationship to be intimate and secure, both parties have to be faithful. The point of it is, if you want to be secure in Christ, God will always fulfill His obligation. God will never leave you nor forsake you—never go back on His promises, will always be true. So if you really want to be secure in Christ, be faithful yourself.
