Praying for the Wayward

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?
Romans 10:14–15

When the Holy Spirit lays wayward people on our hearts, we can always pray for two things. First, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2). God has chosen to work through believers in this church age to accomplish His pure;ones. Therefore, we should ask Him to send a messenger. When David wouldn’t own up to his sin, God sent Nathan to confront him. (You may be someone’s Nathan, since God has commissioned all of us to be His witnesses!)

Second, what Adam and Eve lost in the val was life, and that is what Jesus came to give us. In the context of assurance for salvation (1 John 5:13) and assurance for answered prayer that is according to the will of God (v 14–15), John wrote, “If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life” (v 16). So when God lays someone on your heart, ask Him to send that person a messenger and give life to that person.
