Questioning God
Can God really be everywhere?
One of the limits of human beings is that we can only be in one place at one time, but what about God? Can God be everywhere all at the same time? It seems impossible, doesn’t it? But God is very clear in Psalm 139:7, “Where shall I go from your spirit? Where shall I flee from your presence?” The bottom line is: you can’t go anywhere that God doesn’t already exist. He’s everywhere! He is omnipresent. He is everywhere, all the time. That is both an amazing truth and a humbling truth because some of things that we think we do in secret are in fact known to God because He is there. His omnipresence is a reassuring truth too; you can’t go anywhere that He is not. His name is Emmanuel, God with us. God is everywhere; He is omnipresent.
Can God have wrath and love?
God is wrathful toward sin. It’s hard to fathom that God contains wrath when we so often hear that, “God is love.” But these two characteristics are not at odds with one another; they compliment one another. Here’s the reality: God’s vengeance is perfect. In John 3:36 it says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” Dishonoring, disrespecting, disobeying, and disregarding God is serious. If we ignore the voice of the creator, we deserve His wrath. Our God is wrathful toward sin. But He is filled with endless love for the sinner.
Can we really know God?
Did you know that it’s possible to mentally and relationally to know the living God? It is! Do you know how I know that? The most accurate book in human history tells us; God tells us through the Bible. In fact it should be our number one priority to know God. It’s the most important part about us! Jeremiah 9:24 says it this way, “…Let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Do you see that? God says I want you to know me; I want you to understand me. In fact, He wants you to know and understand Him so much that he has revealed to us so much. In Deuteronomy 29:29 it says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Listen to who God says He is and know Him—mentally, spiritually, and relationally.
Do Christians believe in three Gods?
Is the God of Christianity a belief in three Gods? The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—that sounds like three Gods! But that’s the trinity. The trinity is a belief in one God, three persons. How can that be? The Bible is clear in Deuteronomy 6:4, “The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” One in being—that’s what He is; three in person—God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. What exactly does that mean? Let’s think about for ourselves; I’ll use myself as an example. What am I? I am a human being; that’s what I am. Who am i? I’m Jonathan Carl. So what about God? God is God; that’s His being and essence. That is what He is. The who He is is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He expresses himself in three persons. We may ask, “How can that be? No human is like that!” That’s the point! God is one, but He expresses himself in a unity of three persons.
Does God change over history?
Does He get better with time? Does he get worse with time? No, God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow! We read that in Hebrews 13. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I the Lord do not change…” Isn’t that good news? Our God is consistent. Whether you read about him in the Old Testament or New Testament, he is the same God. He doesn’t get better with time because He is already the standard of goodness and perfection! He doesn’t learn from mistakes because He doesn’t make mistakes. That’s hard for us to understand on a human level because we are constantly changing“for better or for worse.” But our God does not change.
