5 Ways to Pray for Your Schools
1. Physical Needs
“God, please keep our schools safe this year! We thank you for protection from evil but ask that you keep evildoers away this year (Matthew 6:13). In the case of any evil attack we ask for your divine hand of intervention, your provision of brave and courageous heroes, and paths of escape and safe shelter for the vulnerable. We lift up the safety of daily travel to and from our schools as well as requesting protection from accidents throughout the day and in every avenue of extracurricular activities. Help our kids and adults to stay healthy and strong, care for their bodies, and use their bodies to honor their Creator (1 Corinthians 6:20). May our students not find their identity in physical appearance but realize their value and worth in You.”
2. Mental Needs
“Lord, thank you for the minds you have given us. Each of us is uniquely and beautifully made. We lift up the academic exercise of our minds through intellectual, emotional, moral, and relational studies. May minds be transformed daily through our schools such that they are emptied of lies and filled with truth (Rom 12:2). May our children be trained to recognize right from wrong and choose the right thing even when the decision is difficult. May the lips of our educators be flowing with truth and love in all of our their interactions and relationships (Proverbs 12:19).”
3. Developmental Needs
“Jesus, we pray for growth of character in every avenue of our lives. We ask that you provide great examples and mentors in and through the lives of our workers, teachers, coaches, and administrators (1 Thessalonians 1:7). May they walk in holiness and love in a way that overflows into the next generation, demonstrating a love of God and others above a love of self (2 Timothy 2:2).”
4. Emotional Needs
“Father, we ask for healing. Many within our schools have been wounded and hurt in significant ways. We request your comforting presence and indwelling among them that produces “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23). May the emotional healing you provide create a great next generation of community citizens.”
5. Spiritual Needs
“We ask for protection and encouragement towards walking in righteousness. We need your saving hand to rescue souls from darkness and to bring them into the light. We pray for a community and school system full of souls that prioritize their Creator as their Lord and Savior. May our students and school workers walk in and enjoy your love this school year!”
Ephesians 5:2, 8-9 “walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. … Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true)”
