Choose Your Focus

I love fireworks. I love how they capture my attention and overwhelm my senses with their spectacular rainbow starbursts. When fireworks light up the sky, I stop and marvel at their beauty and power.

We live in the midst of so many efforts to get our attention. Salesmen, commercials, media, politicians and more are constantly seeking us out in order to inspire fear or amazement so that we will make decisions according to their wishes. We are constantly processing the world around us—a world that tells us to prioritize ourselves, our feelings, and our desires. But God says otherwise.

Jesus desires our attention, fear, and amazement to be directly focused on Him. He is worthy. He deserves to be our chief focus day in and day out. May we intentionally pause to be captivated by Him.

Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. Psalm 33:8

We must choose daily whether or not we will reflect on or ignore the fact that we live in a world created by Him and for Him. We must orient our purposes to His purposes. We must give Jesus the honor and glory He is due.

Stop and reflect on His beauty and power and praise Him in song and prayer. Sing loudly in your shower, car, home, and church!

You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! Psalm 22:23

Look at the sunrise, sunset, starscape, or landscape today and see how clearly God reveals His power and worth (Psalm 19:1-2, Romans 1:19-20). Do not ignore Him.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
