5 Things to Know About the Devil
Have you noticed how many new movies and TV shows feature the devil and his demons? Why do you suppose this is? Here are two reasons why this is, and what we can do about it…
Reason #1 There is a fascination with and intrinsic knowledge of the existence of the supernatural and unseen world. Atheists are simply choosing to live in denial of the supernatural (Romans 1:19-20). Ghost hunters and paranormal-types have an unhealthy, misdirected, and dangerous appetite that they are feeding. God has already revealed Himself. He should be our focus, not Satan and his demons.
Reason #2 There is a fascination with and attraction towards power. No one wants to be on the losing team. We are intrigued and drawn to displays of power, even when those powers invoke fear in us. True power is found in Jesus, Satan is but a fraud and counterfeit for the real deal.
Here is what we must realize and remember…
We have a real enemy. Satan and his demons exist and are active in this world. Satan and his demons are deceitful and destructive (2 Corinthians 11:14 and John 10:10). Satan and his demons are powerful, but God is greater! (1 John 4:4)
Satan works either by encouraging ignorance or invoking fear. Christians, wake up—and fear not!
Without Jesus, we have no hope. Jesus is the only one who accomplishes the victory over Satan. Without Jesus, we are defeated and enslaved to Satan (1 John 3:8-10). With Jesus, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37-39).
We must not ignore our purpose. We are called to be on the offense in the defense of the glory of our great God.
We must not live in fear. “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV)
