Take a Moment for a Daily Devotion
Christmas morning is a time to remember the arrival of Jesus Christ. His birth as a baby—and later death and resurrection—opened up the way for us to experience the security and protection that come with being born of God.
Our heavenly Father is a Giver. He provides everything we need. We can count on Him to take care of us because, “He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13b) As His followers, we are called to reflect His giving heart to those around us.
If we are trying to follow God’s example, giving at Christmas ought to look less like giving presents and more like giving our presence. In fact, the best gifts celebrate our relationships with God and others.
We worship fully when we worship God with all that we are and all that we have. Worship reflects what is going on in our hearts. The easiest way to evaluate our hearts is to take an honest look at how we spend our time, energy, and money because doing so will indicate what matters most to us.
This Good News should fill us with joy, wonder, purpose, and peace. Why do we often feel the exact opposite this time of year? Jesus wants us to live free from that feeling. Would you join me in choosing to overcome the cultural pressure and worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all?
Receiving involves humility (accepting a gift you didn’t earn) and trust (believing that you don’t need to somehow ‘make up for it’). But receiving is the only way to experience real freedom in Christ.
