Does Your Job Matter to God?
When you’re considering the job you have and the way you work, know this: it matters. God has a lot to say about this topic as the workplace is one of the primary ways we show the gospel; Ephesians 5 and 6 are very clear about that.
We’re called to work as though we are working for the Lord. We’re called to treat our employees the way we would want to be treated. If you’re selling something, you need to sell it with honesty and integrity, being truthful. Our motives in working should be to earn a living so we can give away more, not just to keep finances to become rich. So consider the job you do and how you do it—because it certainly matters to your Father God.
In addition, be on guard toward a false gospel going around; you’ve probably heard of it—health, wealth, and prosperity. Here’s what this gospel sounds like: “God just wants you to be healthy. God just wants you to be rich, blessed, prosperous, and happy.” But ultimately, God’s promises are not for the here and now; God’s promises are for eternity with Him in heaven. So be careful! A lot of people twist the Scriptures to make the Bible say what it really doesn’t say. So listen closely, stay in the Word, and watch out for groups who are focused on making money by twisting Scripture to say what it doesn’t say—which is the false gospel of health, wealth, and prosperity.
