5 Truths about Graduation & Memorial Day

This past week has been full of celebration! When we have the occasion to honor graduates we get to recognize their achievement and hard work and thank God for our education system. On Memorial Day we get the privilege of remembering the life sacrifices that we made in combat by our military in order to allow us the freedoms we have today. Here are 5 truths about gifts from God for us to hold tight to during such seasons!

1

Education Is a Gift.  Most nations in the world do not have education easily and freely available to their entire population all the way through High School. We do. Our resources and opportunities are astounding.  Our school systems, colleges, and universities are the envy of the world over. We are blessed. May we thank God for the gift we have in academia. Let’s look for ways of making it better, praying for our educational leaders and workers, encouraging our school employees, and helping the curriculum faithful to the truths of our Creation and Creator.

2

Children Are a Gift.  The years of childhood fly by. Too often we take our kids and grandkids for granted. Parenting is tough, especially when life is busy and overwhelming. May we slow down and intentionally enjoy the gift of our children before they graduate and move into their own busier seasons of life. If you don’t have any children in your home, may you prayerfully consider investing in a school age child through volunteering to read at a school or by fostering a child that needs a home.

Life Is A Gift.  Life is short. The sacrifices of life through our military have enables us to have so much freedom, prosperity and peace in our country. May we thank God for those who have laid down their lives on our behalf. May we pray for the surviving families who miss their loved one. May we be willing to invest our lives towards a greater good and purpose that serves others.

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

4

Freedom Is A Gift.  America is not perfect; it has lots of problems. But it is free. We enjoy so many freedoms in our country and our national prosperity is significant. May we constantly look for ways to use our freedom and resources to honor God and show love to others. May our freedoms be a reminder of the freedom we find in Jesus. We are free from the condemnation of sin and free from enslavement to Satan. Our freedom is a gift to prioritize the love of our Creator in us and through us.

Galatians 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Jesus Is the Greatest Gift.   We all deserve hell for our rebellious insistence to live independently of God. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is the greatest gift ever that allows us to enjoy Him forever. May we use our lives to honor our Creator and look forward to an eternity with Him in Heaven.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
