Five Christmas Opportunities

Christmas is a time of varying emotions—but usually full of a lot of hustle and bustle. There are many opportunities to seize as we finish 2019, and here are a few priorities to consider for your Christmas season!

1

Enjoy. Jesus first. Spouse, kids, family, church family, friends, neighbors, coworkers. No matter who you have lost in 2019, don’t neglect the many relational blessings you still have. Too often we take Jesus for granted and forget to be grateful for the people He has placed in our life. One of the best signs of gratitude is to simply enjoy what you have been given. Let’s intentionally enjoy Jesus and people this Christmas!

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. Matthew 2:10 ESV

2

Forgive. Unforgiveness and bitterness run rampant today and in our own community and families. Family members and past friends refuse to return to “speaking terms” because of real hurts. God reminds us that “as God in Christ forgave you” we are commanded to be “forgiving one another” (Ephesians 4:32). Let’s be purposeful in restoring, healing, and growing all of our broken, strained, and distanced relationships this Christmas.

And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.Luke 1:50

3

Give. Generously. Sacrificially. Joyfully. God has blessed us financially more than most of the world. He calls and commands us to give back to Him “cheerfully” and not “reluctantly or under compulsion” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Christmas is a reminder to bring our offerings into His presence and for His purpose.

Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11

4

Rest. In Christ. Worshipfully. He has accomplished what we cannot, salvation by His perfect work on the cross. Many of us work too hard to the neglect of quality time with God and family. Christmas is a great time to slow down and look to God!

And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:11

5

Shine. Brightly. Radiate the love and importance of Jesus to everyone around you. He is the greatest gift ever and worthy of our conversations. Marvel and wonder at our glorious and magnificent God!

And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.’ Luke 1:46-47
